Kozhikode: Several flights scheduled to land at Karipur International Airport have been diverted to Nedumbassery Airport due to adverse weather conditions. The heavy rains in the Karipur region have made landing at the airport challenging, prompting authorities to redirect incoming flights to alternative destinations.
Four flights, including Air Arabia’s Abu Dhabi-Kozhikode service, Oman Air’s Muscat-Kozhikode flight, and Air India’s flights from Doha and Sharjah to Kozhikode, were originally slated to land at Karipur last night but were diverted to Nedumbassery Airport in Kochi.
Heavy rains began yesterday afternoon, causing concern not only for airport operations but also for residents in the area. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued rain warnings for various districts in the state, including Kozhikode and Malappuram, in the coming hours.
As a result of these warnings, flights attempting to land at Karipur may continue to face difficulties until weather conditions improve. Airport authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will make landing decisions based on the safety of passengers and crew.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. Furthermore, the department warns of the potential for heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in isolated areas of Kerala, as well as strong and gusty winds.
