New Delhi: The Afghan Minorities Council has expressed its profound concern regarding the closure of the Afghanistan Embassy in Delhi. The Afghan Minority Council firmly rejected the embassy’s statement, asserting that the closure of the embassy would indeed impact bilateral relations between the two countries.

The council further expressed its regret that embassy officials had leveraged the current political situation in Afghanistan for their personal interests, neglecting the welfare of Afghan nationals who have resided in India for many years. The council has alleged that these officials are pursuing ulterior motives, potentially including seeking asylum in other countries. “We extend our gratitude to the Government of India for its proactive measures in ensuring the well-being of Afghan minorities.” In an official statement, the council declared, we extend our willingness to provide full cooperation to the Government of India, if required, to facilitate the seamless functioning and operation of the Afghan Embassy. This offer of cooperation is especially important as there are approximately 21,000 Afghan Hindus and Sikhs residing in India. The Afghan Minorities Council added, “We hope that all parties involved will expedite the resolution of this matter.”

The Afghan Minorities Council serves as the highest authority responsible for overseeing the affairs of Afghan Hindus and Sikhs. Simultaneously, the Afghanistan Embassy in India has refuted reports claiming that the Taliban government has appointed a new charge d’affaires in Delhi. The announcement regarding the cessation of operations for the Afghanistan Embassy in New Delhi on October 1 was made late on Saturday, September 30th.
