Ernakulam : Huge gold seizure at Nedumbassery airport as Customs confiscate jewelry worth Rs 33 lakh concealed in a keychain. A five-member gang from Dubai was apprehended attempting to smuggle 27 gold rings and four gold necklaces through the airport.
Customs identified Sadiq, a Kozhikode native, as the ringleader of the gold smuggling operation. Sadiq, the primary suspect in the case, was apprehended by Customs. The 27 gold rings and chains were cleverly concealed within a set of keys.
During the inspection, an anomaly was detected within the baggage, leading to the discovery of the gold within the key set. Officials estimated the seized gold to weigh approximately half a kilogram. Recent gold seizures from multiple passengers prompted intensified inspection measures by Customs officials.
