Dubai: The 28th edition of the UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 28) commenced in Dubai, UAE. On its inaugural day, it was decided to activate a fund aimed at providing financial compensation to those adversely affected by climate change. Both the UAE and Germany announced they would contribute 100 million dollars each towards this initiative.

Bharat’s Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change and Minister of Labour and Employment, Bhupender Yadav, admired this historic decision on social media and expressed his strong support. Various nations worldwide, including Japan, the United States, and Britain, have also announced contributions to the Loss and Damage Fund, joining the global initiative to address climate-related challenges.

The Loss and Damage Fund, established during the last summit, aims to assist vulnerable developing countries grappling with the adverse impacts of climate change. COP 28 agenda items encompass discussions on climate change mitigation strategies, carbon emissions reduction measures, financial aspects, and more. The event is hosted by Expo City, a sustainable city in Dubai.

More than 85,000 individuals, including global leaders and media representatives, are attending the conference. COP28 will be a critical conference aimed at addressing the urgent issue of climate change.
