Thiruvananthapuram: Ruwais, the accused in the suicide case of PG doctor Shahna from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, was granted bail by the High Court under certain conditions.  The court has indicated that the disciplinary committee, in consultation with the health department, can decide on revoking Ruwais’ suspension.

During today’s bail hearing, the prosecution strongly opposed granting bail to Ruwais, stating the seriousness of the crime. Ruwais informed the court that bail was necessary to complete his studies and expressed willingness to adhere to any conditions imposed. Previously, the Thiruvananthapuram Additional Chief Magistrate Court had denied bail to Ruwais.

Investigations by the police revealed that Dr. Shahna’s death was due to the pressure exerted by Ruwais, demanding dowry. The relationship, which was heading towards marriage, ended due to dowry-related issues, leading to Dr. Shahna’s suicide.

Statements from Shahna’s relatives indicated that Ruwais and his family demanded dowry for their marriage. Dr. Shahna, in her suicide note, mentioned the constant pressure exerted by Ruwais for gold and money.
