Kochi: The High Court of Kerala dismissed Monson Mavunkal’s plea, which sought to freeze the verdict in a POCSO case against him. While dismissing his plea the court observed that there is convincing evidence to justify the lower court’s judgment against him.
The Ernakulam District POCSO court had sentenced the fake antique dealer, Monson Mavunkal, to life imprisonment in the case. Following the verdict Mavunkal filed a plea in High Court seeking to freeze the lower court’s judgment against him. However, the High Court squashed his petition and said that the crime committed by Mavunkal was very serious.
The crime took place in 2019, when Monson Mavunkal sexually abused the daughter of his employee with the promise of paying for her higher education. The girl was subjected to frequent abuse at Monson’s house in Ernakulam, according to the complaint. The case was probed by a team headed by a Crime Branch Dy.SP.
