Alappuzha: Dr. Shibu Balakrishnan is a living victim of CPI(M) brutality. He lost his leg when communist goons attacked him at his home in Alathur in 2018 in front of his mother. However, he refused to give up in life and has travelled from Alathur to Alappuzha to campaign for NDA candidate, Shoba Surendran.
Shibu Balakrishnan had joined the army, when he was eighteen and served the nation for seventeen years. After returning to his home in Alathur, he joined the BJP and began leading the nationalist party efficiently. His activism in BJP helped the party make inroads into the CPI(M) stronghold. This infuriated the communist party and they decided to put an end of Shibu Balakrishnan’s activities forever.
On 2 April, 2018, at 9pm an eight-member gang of communist goons broke into Shibu’s home and hacked him. The attack was done in front of his ailing mother who was suffering from cancer. Thinking that Shibu was dead they left the house.
When Shibu Balakrishnan was brought to the hospital, he had 38 wounds on his body. He spent several months in a private hospital in Ernakulam. Though his life was saved, he lost his right leg. However the former army man did not lose hope. Within months he learned to walk and drive a vehicle using his artificial leg.
Shibu also devoted his time, while in treatment, to studies. He earned his PhD in social service, agricultural multiple farming. Currently, he is studying law.
On the campaign trail, Dr. Shibu Balakrishnan speaks to the people about the cruelty of CPI(M) and also shows the visible signs of communist brutality on his body. He joined Shoba Surendran’s campaign in Alappuzha one-and-a-half months ago.
Shibu Balakrishnan is the Co-convener of Ex-servicemen Cell of the BJP. He had earlier served as the Alathur Mandalam President and Mandalam General Secretary of the BJP.
