New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Monday that Bharat and Pakistan have exchanged lists of nuclear installations and facilities through diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad. This exchange of information is in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between the two nations.
The agreement, signed on December 31, 1988, and effective from January 27, 1991, mandates that Bharat and Pakistan share details of the nuclear installations and facilities covered by the agreement on the first of January every calendar year. According to the MEA release, this marks the 33rd consecutive annual exchange of such lists between the two countries, with the first exchange occurring on January 1, 1992.
The exchange of the list came amid continuing strain in ties between the two countries over multiple issues including Kashmir and cross-border terrorism.
