Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released a documentary on Thursday on its social media platforms, highlighting the alleged land grab and sexual exploitation of women in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. The BJP presented the documentary amidst growing protests against the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government.
The 20-minute long documentary shows women of Sandeshkhali narrating how TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his aides allegedly grabbed their land and sexually assaulted them.
“A truth that’ll shock us. A truth that’ll pain us. A truth that’ll shake our conscience. The truth of Sandeshkhali, that Mamata Banerjee is trying to hide,” the BJP said while posting the documentary on X.
In Sandeshkhali, women have been protesting for several days, alleging atrocities committed against them by TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates. They accused Sheikh and his ‘gang’ of forcibly capturing land and subjecting women to sexual harassment. Sheikh has been absconding since January, following an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team that had gone to raid his residence in connection with a ration scam.
