New Delhi: Today, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced a partnership with Indian manufacturer VVDN Technologies to commence the manufacturing of high-volume servers in India. This collaboration follows the recent state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States.
HPE, headquartered in Texas, plans to produce approximately USD 1 billion worth of high-runner servers in India during the first five years of production, as stated in a release. “We welcome HPE’s decision to start their manufacturing line in India, as it will enhance domestic production capacities,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology. He further highlighted that the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme 2.0, announced recently, aims to establish India as a global hub for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), and the large-scale manufacturing of IT hardware will contribute to the growth of the manufacturing ecosystem.
Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his belief that the manufacturing of these high-end and complex machines in India signifies the maturation of the electronics manufacturing industry. Prior to the announcement, Som Satsangi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director at HPE India, and Puneet Agarwal, CEO at VVDN Technologies, met with Ashwini Vaishnaw to share the details of the initiative.
HPE has chosen VVDN Technologies, an Indian manufacturer, to produce its products at its facility in Manesar, Haryana. This manufacturing operation aims to meet the increasing demand from customers in India while also strengthening and diversifying HPE’s global supply chain. India is home to HPE’s largest workforce outside of the United States.
Antonio Neri, President and CEO of HPE, emphasised the significance of this announcement, stating, “Today’s announcement marks a significant milestone for HPE and reiterates our commitment to the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative for a self-reliant India.” He further highlighted the strategic importance of India as a market for HPE’s business, talent, and innovation and expressed pride in establishing a manufacturing operation in this important country. HPE’s largest campus in the world, located in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru, hosts numerous global product development resources, including over 4,000 scientists, engineers, and research teams involved in HPE’s R&D activities.
Som Satsangi, SVP and Managing Director at HPE India, affirmed that the decision to commence manufacturing in India demonstrates HPE’s long-term commitment to the country. With the expectation of India growing into a USD 1 trillion digital economy, he believes that “Make in India” will play a crucial role in accelerating this vision. By enabling local manufacturing, HPE aims to better serve the needs of customers across various industries and segments, ranging from start-ups and SMBs to enterprises and government entities.
