Srinagar: Three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed and three security forces personnel, including an Army officer, injured in an encounter at Pattan area in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
Talking about the gunbattle, Commander 10 Sector of the Rashtriya Rifles of the Army Brigadier NK Mishra said that the terrorists belonging to the proscribed outfit HM was killed after a long gap. Before that only terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad had been eliminated.
“The activity of the Hizbul Mujahideen had declined to a large extent. However, it seems that they are trying to re-establish its base in north Kashmir,” Brigadier Mishra said.
Two out of three terrorists were identified as locals, named Shafkat Ali Khan of Rawatpora, Delina and Hanan Bilal Sofi of old town Baramulla.
The terrorists were hiding in a residential complex who started firing at the forces. They had also took 12 civilians as hostages. The forces successfully eliminated the three terrorists and the hostages were rescued.
