Thiruvananthapuram: The much-anticipated Malayalam film ‘Aadujeevitham’, starring Prithviraj, made its theatrical debut yesterday and received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences. Despite the absence of fan shows, the movie managed to rake in an impressive Rs 4.8 crore in Kerala alone. Globally, the film’s collections have surpassed Rs 15 crore, with over Rs 7 crore earned in Bharat, as reported by trade analysts.
Notably, ‘Aadujeevitham’ has created history by becoming the first Malayalam movie to earn Rs 1 crore from Karnataka. The film is also performing exceptionally well in Tamil Nadu, garnering praise from audiences who are already hailing it as a classic. The film is expected to continue its successful run in the coming days due to positive word-of-mouth promotions.
‘Aadujeevitham’ boasts the highest budget movie ever seen in Malayalam cinema. Its journey began in 2008, with filming commencing in 2018. After a five-year-long production period, the shooting was finally completed in 2023, marking the longest production duration for a Malayalam film.
Directed by Blessy, based on the Malayalam novel of Benyamin, ‘Aadujeevitham’ tells the gripping story of Najeeb, a Keralite immigrant laborer who finds himself enslaved as a goatherd on a remote farm in desert.
Produced by Visual Romance, the film also features K.R. Gokul, Hollywood actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, and Arab actors Talib al-Balushi and RikAby in pivotal roles. Academy Award winners A.R. Rahman and Resul Pookutty have contributed music and sound design, respectively.
