California: The much awaited 92nd Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars was held on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
This year, South Korean film ‘Parasite’ took the award, creating history by becoming the first non-English film to win a Best Picture Oscar. Director Bong Joon Ho also picked up the Best Director trophy, while Parasite went on to win two more awards, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film. Parasite, based on class struggle in South Korea, is a dark comedy on two families, the well-to-do Parks and the ‘parasites’, the Kims.
“A very opportune moment in history is happening now,” said Bong Joon Ho.
“After winning Best International Feature, I thought I was done for the day and was ready to relax!” he added.
Renée Zellweger won best actress for “Judy” while Joaquin Phoenix won best actor for “Joker”. Zellweger lifted her first Oscar for the portrayal of late icon Judy Garland in the biopic.
Brad Pitt bagged best supporting actor for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and Laura Dern won best supporting actress for “Marriage Story.”
