Thiruvananthapuram: Basil Joseph, a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema known for his roles as an actor and director, has carved a niche for himself with films beloved by family audiences. Interestingly, Basil hails from a non-cinematic background, with his father being a Christian priest and educator in Sultan Bathery.
After completing his studies at Thiruvananthapuram Engineering College, Basil took a leap into the world of cinema, leaving behind a job at Infosys. His latest film as an actor, ‘Falimy,’ is set in the backdrop of the Kashi Yatra, with Varanasi holding a significant place in the narrative.
Speaking at an event related to the film, Basil Joseph opened up about his experience in Varanasi. This marked his first visit to Kashi, and he expressed the awe he felt at finally being in the city he had previously only seen in photos, heard about in stories, and witnessed in movies.
“It is a great feeling to reach Kashi. It is a different world. If I get another chance, I would like to go again. It is not about caste, religion, or creed. Kashi is a philosophical space in human life. That one place and its mood, the smell of Sambrani sticks, the smell of sandalwood—you have to experience it all. We can feel Varanasi through smell and touch. Varanasi is a place where you can feel everything,” shared Basil Joseph during the event.
