Ernakulam: The Kerala High Court refused to stay the release of the much-anticipated Mohanlal starrer ‘Neru,’ scheduled to hit theatres on Thursday, December 21. The decision comes in response to a petition filed by Deepu K. Unni, who alleged that the film’s script was plagiarized from a screenplay he had authored.
Unni, the petitioner, claims that ‘Neru’ is an emotional family drama featuring male and female lawyers, and he had discussed the script with Jeethu Joseph and Santhi Mayadevi. According to Unni, both filmmakers expressed appreciation for the script, assuring him that it would be incorporated into Jeethu Joseph’s upcoming film.
Unni alleges that he was compelled to hand over copies of his script to Joseph and Mayadevi during their meetings. However, the court refused to stay the release and issued notice to the central government as well as to the film’s director and writer, Jeethu Joseph, and co-writer, lawyer Santhi Mayadevi.
