Telangana: As the highly anticipated film “Salaar” is set to hit theatres tomorrow, discussions on social media are buzzing, with one topic taking centre stage—the dark background of the film. Interestingly, this aesthetic choice is not new for director Prashant Neel, were he has already done in his mega-hit film “KGF.” Recently, in an interview related to Salaar’s promotion, Prashant Neel shared insights into the reasoning behind the recurring dark backgrounds in his films.
The director disclosed that his choice of such colours stems from his personal struggle with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). According to Prashant Neel, the way things look on screen reflects his personal style. He likes simple and muted colours, and he believes this choice matches his personality. Neel highlighted that these specific backgrounds were chosen to suit the mood and story of the films.
Prashant Neel explained, “I have OCD. I don’t like clothes with a lot of colors. I feel like what I see on screen is a reflection of my personality. That’s why KGF and Salaar look the same.” He acknowledged the collaborative efforts with cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda, who initially envisioned a grey background for “Salaar.”
The director admitted that the choice of background could evoke mixed reactions but highlighted its significance in establishing the film’s mood. Addressing comparisons between “KGF” and “Salaar,” Prashant Neel stated that the dark background is an integral part of Salaar’s narrative, essential to conveying the film’s sombre tone.
