New Delhi: In a prestigious ceremony, acclaimed director Mani Ratnam was honoured with the ‘CNN News 18 Indian of the Year 2023 Award’ under the Entertainment category. The announcement was made by Vinoda Mekha, and the award was presented to Mani Ratnam by renowned screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar. The jury panel, consisting of Former Solicitor General of India, Harish Salve, retired Supreme Court Justice Indu Malhotra, Athletic Federation Vice President Anju Bobby George, Chairperson of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group ,Sanjeev Goenka, environmentalist Afroz Shah, and Javed Akhtar, jointly recognised Mani Ratnam’s exceptional contributions to Indian cinema.
Mani Ratnam’s notable achievements in 2023 include the release of the highly acclaimed movie “Ponniyin Selvan,” a film that explores the diverse history and culture of Tamil people. The movie garnered widespread acclaim and achieved significant success at the box office.
The CNN News 18 Indian of the Year 2023 Award ceremony also witnessed the presence of distinguished personalities, including nominees such as actress Deepika Padukone, actor Manoj Bajpayee, and actor Sunny Deol.
