Thiruvananthapuram: Actress Nayanthara has issued a sincere apology note for her recent Tamil film “Annapoorani,” after accusations of hurting religious sentiments led to the movie being pulled from Netflix. In an Instagram post, actress Nayanthara expressed regret, stating that the film was intended to inspire and uplift rather than cause distress.
In her message, Nayanthara mentioned that crafting “Annapoorani” was not just a cinematic effort but a heartfelt endeavour to inspire resilience and the spirit of never giving up. The film aimed to depict life’s journey, where obstacles could be overcome with willpower. Nayanthara acknowledged that, in their sincere attempt to share a positive message, they may have inadvertently caused hurt.
“Annapoorani” revolves around Nayanthara’s character, a young Brahmin woman aspiring to become the best chef in the country, facing challenges related to cooking non-vegetarian food. Directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, the movie faced controversy last week when complaints were filed against Nayanthara and the makers, alleging that certain scenes hurt Hindu religious sentiments.
Nayanthara emphasised that her team never intended to hurt anyone’s sentiments, expressing understanding of the gravity of the issue. The film, released in theatres in December and later on Netflix, was unexpectedly removed from the streaming platform amidst the controversy.
