Thiruvananthapuram: The film ‘Manjummel Boys’ was released recently in theatres and received widespread acclaim after its first screening. The movie shows the real-life incidents that happened back in 2006 at Kodaikanal. The film portrays the gripping narrative of 11 individuals from Manjummel , also known as Manjummel boys, hailing from Manjummel, Kochi, who encountered harrowing experiences in Gune Cave in Kodaikanal. The Manjummel boys shared their experience and talked about how this true-life incident was made in a cinema.
According to the Manjummel boys, the journey to immortalise their story in film was not an easy one. They stated that numerous attempts were made to capture this incident on screen, but they failed due to budget issues, and the filmmakers struggled to shoot the film.
They said that Chidambaram is not the first person to adapt their story into a film. He is the fourth person to attempt it, after several others who came before him. However, the scope of our narrative demanded a huge budget, which proved to be a barrier for previous filmmakers.
They said that they travelled to Kodaikanal in 2006, and the entire incident that happened there was shown on screen. The entire film crew stayed with us for three years to shoot this film.
