Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Yatra’, the 2019 film featuring Mammootty as former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, garnered immense success at the box office. However, its sequel, ‘Yatra 2’, failed to replicate the same success. The film, centred around the life of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, faced a disappointing outcome. The film was released in theatres on February 8th.
According to collection reports, the film ‘Yatra 2’ managed to collect only Rs. 8 crore globally. The film was produced for Rs. 50 crore. The film’s underwhelming performance has led to discussions about its release on the OTT platform. It is said that the film ‘Yatra 2’ is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on March 8.
It is commonly believed that the film ‘Yatra 2’ was released with the upcoming Andhra Pradesh assembly elections in mind. But the Telugu audience has not accepted the film in any way.
Directed by Mahi V Raghav, with actor Jeeva portraying Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, ‘Yatra 2’ failed to resonate with viewers. Even though Mammootty plays an important role, the collection reports indicate a disappointing outcome for the film.
