Thiruvananthapuram: The Mollywood box office witnessed a surge in success with the release of the film ‘Premalu’ along with ‘Bramayugam’ and the film ‘Manjummel Boys’. Together, these movies have amassed an impressive gross of over Rs 200 crore.
In contrast to the only four superhits the industry saw in 2023, the Malayalam film industry achieved these box office hits within just two months of 2024. Reports indicate that the film ‘Premalu’ alone has collected a staggering Rs 77 crore worldwide. ‘Bramayugam’, featuring Mammooty and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, has also garnered significant success, with collections exceeding Rs 50 crore. ‘Manjummel Boys’, released on February 22, amassed an impressive Rs 36.11 crore within just four days.
These films represent diverse genres, with ‘Manjummel Boys’ portraying a survival thriller based on a true incident, ‘Premalu’ offering a comedy-drama, and ‘Bramayugam’ delving into horror content. Despite their differences, all three films have been widely accepted by audiences of all ages, including families, youth, and general viewers.
The success of these films extends beyond Kerala, with reports indicating record-breaking box-office collections in foreign countries. In the UK and Ireland alone, ‘Bramayugam’ raked in an impressive collection of Rs. 37 lakhs on its opening day, marking it as the best opening for a Mammootty film abroad. Additionally, ‘Bramayugam’ has made its mark as Mammootty’s first film to enter the top five Malayalam grossers in Tamil Nadu.
The film ‘Manjummel Boys’ has also garnered attention from both audiences and critics, leading YouTube channels in Tamil Nadu conducting post-release interviews with the film’s actors.
