Thiruvananthapuram: The recently released Malayalam film ‘Manjummel Boys’ has made history by becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film in the industry to date. Directed by Chidambaram, the movie has surpassed the previous record set by Jude Anthany Joseph’s ‘2018’, which held the title last year.
Reports indicate that ‘Manjummel Boys’ has earned over Rs 175 crore worldwide. The team took to Instagram to express their gratitude, captioning a post with “The Highest Worldwide Grosser From the Malayalam Film Industry. Thank you all for the love.”
While ‘Manjummel Boys’ received positive reviews in Kerala, it has achieved massive success in Tamil Nadu as well, where it continues to run to packed houses in many theaters. The movie quickly surpassed the initial gross collections of the one-time highest-grossing film ‘Pulimurugan’ upon its release.
This film marks director Chidambaram’s second directorial venture after the hit movie ‘Jan E Man’, featuring Basil Joseph. ‘Manjummel Boys’ is a survival drama based on a real-life incident and follows the journey of a group of men from Ernakulam to Kodaikanal. The cast includes Sreenath Bhasi, Soubin Shahir, Ganapathi, Balu Varghese, and Jean-Paul Lal, among others, who play prominent roles in the movie.
