The highly anticipated prequel to the blockbuster Kannada film “Kantara,” titled “Kantara 2,” is scheduled to commence filming at the end of August 2023. The original film garnered immense attention not only from Kannada viewers but also from audiences across the country, thanks to its mythical and captivating storyline. The renowned production company Hombale Films, which produced the first instalment, will be overseeing the production of the prequel as well.
According to media reports, Chaluve Gowda, the Managing Director of Hombale Group, revealed that the exact Muhurath (auspicious date) for the film’s commencement has not been finalised yet but will likely be in August or September 2023.
Gowda also shared exclusive details about the film, confirming that the script for “Kantara 2” has been finalised. Additionally, it was revealed that actor Rishabh Shetty, known for his multifaceted roles as writer, director, and actor in the original film, is undergoing intensive physical training for his part in the sequel.
There has been speculation that filming for “Kantara 2” would begin on August 27, as the first instalment, “Kantara,” went on floors on the same date in 2021. Kannada star Rishabh Shetty took to social media to hint at this possibility. The first film was a massive success, grossing nearly ₹500 crore after its release in September 2022.
In March, on the auspicious occasion of Ugadi (New Year in Karnataka), Rishabh Shetty announced that he had started working on the script for “Kantara 2” and has now finalised the draft. The film is slated for a theatrical release in 2024, continuing the much-anticipated saga for fans of the franchise.
