Director Andy Muschietti has reportedly been chosen to direct the upcoming DC film “Batman: Brave and the Bold,” according to several media reports. The film is part of DC Studios’ new lineup of titles unveiled earlier this year as part of their Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters phase, aimed at reinvigorating the DC Universe.
Based on the comic series by Grant Morrison, who is highly regarded in the DC Cinematic Universe (DCU), the project envisions a Bat-family where Bruce Wayne’s biological son Damian takes on the role of Robin. The film will be produced by Muschietti’s sister and creative partner, Barbara, through their production banner Double Dream, alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran.
“Batman: Brave and the Bold” will mark the first live-action appearance of the character Robin since Chris O’Donnell portrayed the role alongside George Clooney in 1997’s “Batman and Robin.” It is worth noting that this film will exist independently from Robert Pattinson’s “The Batman” movies, directed by Matt Reeves, set for release in 2025.
In addition to their involvement in “Batman: Brave and the Bold,” the Muschiettis and Double Dream have entered into multi-year first-look deals with Warner Bros Pictures and Warner Bros Television Group/Max. They are also working on the HBO series “Welcome to Derry,” a prequel to the blockbuster horror film “It” and its sequel.
Andy Muschietti, known for his directorial work on the “It” films, starring Bill Skarsgård, has established himself as a successful filmmaker. Meanwhile, James Gunn confirmed in a podcast appearance that his Superman film, titled “Superman: Legacy,” will be the first official DC Studios film, while the character Blue Beetle will be the first in the DC Universe lineup. The release of the DCU Batman movie is expected in 2026, as previously stated.
