“Chandramukhi 2” serves as a sequel to the 2005 blockbuster film. The original film featured Rajinikanth as Dr. Saravanan and Vettaiyan Raja, while Jyotika portrayed the titular character, Chandramukhi. In this sequel, Ragava Lawrence takes on the role of Vettaiyan Raja, succeeding Rajinikanth, and Kangana replaces Jyotika as the enigmatic spirit of Chandramukhi.
The precursor to the Tamil film was the Malayalam hit “Manichitrathazhu” (1993), which was subsequently remade in Hindi as “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” (2007), starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. Helmed by director P. Vasu, “Chandramukhi 2” also features prominent names such as Raghava Lawrence, Vadivelu, and various others.
In addition to her role in “Chandramukhi 2,” Kangana Ranaut is set to make her mark in “Emergency,” where she not only plays the lead role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi but also takes on the role of director. Kangana had announced the project in 2021, clarifying that while “Emergency” is a political drama, it is not a biopic of Indira Gandhi. Alongside Kangana, the film boasts a stellar cast, including Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, Vishak Nair, and Shreyas Talpade, among others. “Emergency” is slated for a theatrical release on November 24, 2023.
