Saudi Arabia: In a significant blow to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, FIFA has imposed a ban on the club from signing new players due to their failure to pay Leicester City £390,000 in add-ons for Nigerian player Ahmed Musa, who joined Al Nassr in 2018. The ban comes as a consequence of Al Nassr’s non-compliance with FIFA’s ruling to settle the outstanding amount owed to Leicester City.
Reports indicate that Al Nassr had been notified in 2021 about their obligation to pay Leicester City the outstanding amount. However, the club failed to meet this requirement, resulting in the subsequent ban. FIFA had warned Al Nassr that failure to comply with the payment would lead to a three-consecutive-registration-period ban.
Despite this setback, Al Nassr recently appointed Luís Castro as their coach. The 61-year-old Portuguese coach, known for his successful tenure at Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, including victories over Real Madrid in the 2020-21 Champions League, took charge of the team during a preseason training camp in Portugal. The length of Castro’s contract with the club has not been disclosed.
In addition to the coaching appointment, Al Nassr made notable signings, including Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan. The club has also been linked with a potential move for Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea, signaling their ambition to strengthen the squad.
