United States: Inter Miami co-owner and former football superstar David Beckham believes that Lionel Messi will need some time to adapt to Major League Soccer (MLS) despite the league’s “different level” of play compared to the European game.
Beckham, renowned for his illustrious career with Manchester United and Real Madrid, was present to witness Messi’s first training session with Inter Miami on Tuesday. The Argentine football maestro recently signed a two-and-a half-year contract with the club, marking a momentous occasion for the MLS.
The training session also saw the participation of another familiar face from Messi’s Barcelona days, Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets. He, too, has signed with Inter Miami and joined Messi in preparing for the upcoming challenges.
“Tata” Martino, the former coach of Barcelona and Argentina, led the session, adding to the excitement surrounding Messi’s arrival in the United States.
While Beckham acknowledges the exceptional talent and stature of Messi and Busquets, he emphasised that the transition to MLS will require some adjustment for both players, irrespective of their skill levels.
“Leo’s still going to need to adapt, no matter how good he is or what his stature is. He and Sergio are going to need to adapt no matter what,” Beckham stated.
The signing of Lionel Messi has generated immense excitement among football enthusiasts in the United States. With Messi being one of the most celebrated footballers in the world, his arrival in the MLS has the potential to elevate the league’s status and attract more attention from fans globally.
