Osaka: The ongoing transfer saga between Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has taken a new turn, with PSG defender and captain Marquinhos breaking his silence on the matter. Reports suggest that the French striker is keen on seeing out his contract with the Ligue 1 giants and leaving for free next summer, but PSG is faced with a difficult decision: cash out on the player in the current transfer window or convince him to sign a contract extension.
Marquinhos, who is a key figure in the PSG squad, expressed his thoughts on the situation, acknowledging Kylian Mbappe’s exceptional talent while emphasising that the decision lies with the club’s management. “It is a delicate question. Kylian is an exceptional player, very strong, but the decision goes beyond us, and it is with management that we have to see it. We always want to evolve with the right players. I hope that a good solution will be found so that he comes back to the group and helps us this season,” the Brazilian defender stated while speaking to reporters, as quoted by Goal.com.
The transfer drama has led to Mbappe being excluded from the PSG squad that departed for Japan and South Korea for the pre-season tour. PSG’s stance is clear: only fully committed players will be part of the tour, and the club believes that Mbappe has already agreed to join Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
Within the club, this perceived move by Mbappe is being seen as a huge betrayal, especially after the player had previously indicated that he would not leave the club for free. PSG sought clarity from Mbappe upon his return to training, but so far, no communication has been received from the player’s side.
As a result, the club assumes that Mbappe intends to leave, and they have started preparations for life without him, beginning with the pre-season tour of the Far East. PSG is now open to engaging with potential suitors, and many clubs are closely monitoring the developments surrounding Mbappe’s future.
Kylian Mbappe joined PSG in 2017 and has since become a crucial player for the club, making over 170 appearances in Ligue 1 and scoring an impressive 158 goals in the tournament. He has played a pivotal role in PSG’s success, winning five Ligue 1 titles with the club, including the most recent one in the 2022–23 season. Mbappe has solidified his position as the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, leaving the fans and management with mixed emotions about his potential departure.
