Florida: Argentine football maestro Lionel Messi added another feather to his illustrious cap as he marked a milestone by scoring against his 100th team, Atlanta United, during a sensational performance with Inter Miami on Wednesday.
Messi’s arrival at Inter Miami has caused waves of excitement among fans, and he made a remarkable debut appearance by scoring a crucial free-kick in the final minutes of the game. Leading his new team for the first time, the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner displayed his extraordinary skills, netting two first-half goals, bringing his total tally to three goals and one assist in just two games.
With this stunning brace, Messi achieved an impressive feat, becoming the only player to score against 100 different teams throughout his remarkable career that spans nearly two decades. The journey began at the end of the 2004-2005 season, when the Argentine scored his first senior goal for Barcelona against Albacete in La Liga. A mere 16-year-old at the time, Messi was brought on as a substitute in the 87th minute and elegantly lofted the ball over the keeper following a pass from Brazilian winger Ronaldinho.
Since then, Lionel Messi has risen to iconic status both for his club and country. His formative years saw him play for clubs like Grandoli, Newell’s Old Boys, and Barcelona C, where he quickly showcased his potential with five goals in 10 appearances. After a year-long stint with Barcelona B in the 2003-2004 season, where he scored six goals in 22 matches, Messi made his debut for Barcelona’s senior team in November 2003, firmly cementing his place as a key player from a young age.
Over the next two decades, Messi dazzled the football world with his mesmerising performances for Barcelona, making 520 appearances and netting an incredible 474 goals for the club. His achievements with the Catalan giants include winning numerous titles, including ten La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, and seven Copa del Rey trophies.
After his illustrious career with Barcelona, the football legend made a move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2021. During his time with the French football giant, Messi made 58 appearances, scoring 22 goals, and contributed significantly to PSG’s success, clinching two Ligue 1 titles and a Trophee des Champions title in 2022, and in a free transfer, the football icon is now playing for a US club, Inter Miami.
