Thiruvananthapuram: As summer approaches, the consumption of fruits like oranges increases because of their hydrating properties and rich nutrient content. Rich in vital nutrients like vitamin C and antioxidants, oranges aid in hydration, boost immunity, promote healthy hair and skin, and aid digestion.
However, recent advisories from health experts caution against consuming oranges immediately after meals. Despite being a source of nutrition, oranges contain citric acid, like in lemons and pineapples. Consuming fruits with high citric acid content post-meals can lead to various digestive issues such as indigestion, stomach aches, heartburn, acidity, and breathlessness. The rapid breakdown of citric acid when consumed after meals can interfere with digestion and cause discomfort.

To mitigate these concerns, experts recommend consuming oranges in the morning on an empty stomach or a couple of hours after breakfast. Additionally, substituting oranges for evening tea can offer a healthy alternative.
