Itanagar: Four people have been arrested for stealing the golden holy book from Luguthang monastery in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang. The police arrested the accused from Meragoh village. The golden scripture, which carries historical significance, was stolen last month.
Luguthang is one of the remotest villages in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang. The golden scripture is a Buddhist holy book weighing 35 kg and written in gold. The holy book can be found only at Luguthang village at a height of around 14,500 feet above sea level. It was stolen from Luguthang monastery on April 28.
The miscreants entered the Gonpa (Buddhist temple) by breaking the lock of the main door and took off with the Buddhist holy book. The Arunachal Pradesh police have started an investigation immediately after the robbery. The police team led by Tawang district Sub Inspector Pema Wangchu captured the accused and recovered the golden scripture. The police informed that more investigation is ongoing in the incident.
