New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a visit to Egypt later this month, following his trip to the United States. It is the first time in fourteen years that an Indian Prime Minister is visiting Egypt. It will be Modi’s first visit to the African nation after he became prime minister.
In recent years, there have been notable exchanges between India and Egypt. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi visited India in both 2015 and 2016, while earlier this year in January, he was the esteemed chief guest for India’s Republic Day celebrations. Indian PM Modi had planned to visit Egypt in 2020, but did not happen due to Corona lockdowns. According to the PM Office, Modi’s visit will maintain the momentum created by the Egyptian President’s visit this year and to take stock of progress in relations since then. India and Egypt are also expanding naval cooperation and have explored the possibilities of joint production of defence equipment.
President Al-Sisi’s visit to India in January 2023 was a very significant one. After that visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was invited to visit Cairo.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in America on June 22. He will also address the US Parliament there. After that, he will reach Egypt on June 24.
