Japan: In a historic victory, the Indian women’s hockey team emerged triumphant in the highly anticipated final of the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2023 against the four-time champions, South Korea. The match, held on Sunday, showcased an intense battle between the two teams of Asian women’s hockey.
Annu and Neelam emerged as the heroes of the game, scoring a goal each in the 22nd and 41st minutes, respectively, propelling India to a 2-2 tie by the final whistle. The closely contested match then proceeded to a nail-biting penalty shootout.
Indian team displayed steely resolve and surgical accuracy in the penalty shootout and finally they won by scoring 2-1.
In recognition of their outstanding achievement, Hockey India announced a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh each for the players for lifting their maiden Women’s Hockey Junior Asian Cup 2023 title, and supporting staff will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh each.
