Indian badminton star PV Sindhu faced disappointment in the women’s singles  event of the Indonesian Open 2023 as she suffered a second-round defeat against world No. 3 Tai Tzu Ying in Jakarta on Thursday. Sindhu, ranked 14th in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, fought hard but ultimately lost with a score of 18-21, 16-21 to the defending champion from Chinese Taipei.

The encounter marked the 24th head-to-head meeting between Sindhu and Tai Tzu Ying. Despite Sindhu’s determined efforts, the higher-ranked player’s skill and experience proved to be decisive in securing victory. Although Sindhu exits the tournament, her presence and tenacity on the court continue to inspire badminton enthusiasts worldwide.

On a brighter note, Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth showcased his prowess and advanced to the quarterfinals in the men’s singles category. In a highly competitive match against compatriot Lakshya Sen, Srikanth displayed his composure and experience, earning crucial points throughout the encounter. The match ended with a shoreline of 21-17, 22-20 in favour of Srikanth, securing his spot in the next round of the tournament.
