New Delhi: In a significant development aimed at supporting Indian athletes and team officials participating in International competitions, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced a revision in the upper ceiling amount for boarding and lodging. The revised norm, which represents a 66% increase, comes under the Ministry’s Scheme of Assistance to National Sports Federation.
Under the newly revised guidelines, athletes and support staff traveling for approved competitions abroad, known as foreign exposures, will now be entitled to a daily allowance of USD 250. This substantial increase marks a significant boost from the previous limit of USD 150 per day.
The decision to revise the ceiling amount was made in response to requests from National Sports Federations (NSFs) who highlighted that the rates set by the Local Organizing Committees (LOC) for boarding and lodging during competitions abroad often exceeded the existing ceiling of USD 150 per day. Notably, these norms for boarding and lodging had remained unchanged since their establishment in November 2015, making the revision long overdue.
