The stage is set for an exhilarating battle as the FIH Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup approaches, with India being drawn into Pool C alongside formidable opponents Germany, Belgium, and Canada. The tournament, featuring 16 teams, will be held in Santiago from November 29 to December 10. The detailed schedule and fixtures are expected to be announced soon.
Germany, the most successful team in Pool C, poses a significant challenge for India. With a World Championship title win in 1989 and two second-place finishes in 2005 and 2022, Germany has established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in international hockey. Additionally, they secured a third-place finish in 1993, further highlighting their pedigree in the sport.
The Indian team, finished fourth in the previous edition of the tournament in 2022 after a closely contested Bronze medal playoff match against England, will kick off their campaign against Canada on the opening day of the tournament. They will then face former champions Germany on December 1, followed by a crucial clash against Belgium on December 2 to conclude their Pool stage matches.
The tournament format dictates that each team will play three matches in their respective Pools during the group stage. The top two teams from each Pool will progress to the quarterfinals, while the remaining teams will compete for classification positions.
In Pool A, the defending champions, the Netherlands find themselves pitted against South Africa, Australia, and Chile. The Netherlands, who clinched the title for the fourth time in the previous edition, will undoubtedly aim to maintain their dominance in international women’s hockey.
The rankings add further intrigue to the tournament, with Germany currently ranked fourth and Belgium placed fifth in the world rankings. India holds the eighth position, while Canada, the lowest-ranked team in Pool C, is ranked 15th.
