Nottingham: In a captivating display of batting prowess, Tammy Beaumont scripted history by scoring a magnificent double century in the ongoing Test match between England Women and Australia Women. The third day of the match witnessed a dominant performance by the English team, with Beaumont stealing the spotlight with her remarkable innings.
At stumps on the previous day, Australia had a slender lead of 92 runs with an opening partnership of 82 runs, featuring Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield. However, the third day belonged to Beaumont, who continued her exceptional form from the warm-up game against Australia A.
Beaumont and Nat Sciver-Burnt formed a strong partnership early on day three, putting Australia on the back foot. However, just before lunch, Australia managed to break the partnership by dismissing Sciver-Burnt for 78 runs, courtesy of Ashleigh Gardner’s bowling brilliance.
Undeterred by the loss of her partner, Beaumont continued her exquisite batting display, surpassing her impressive form in the warm-up game. She found a brief companion in debutant Danni Wyatt, but as Wyatt fell, Beaumont saw a flurry of partners departing at the other end. Nonetheless, she accomplished her double century, becoming the first English woman to achieve this milestone in Test cricket.
By surpassing Betty Snowball’s 1935 record of 189 runs, Beaumont etched her name in the annals of English cricket history. This outstanding feat also marked the eighth double century in Women’s Test cricket.
While Beaumont’s innings took center stage, Australia’s bowlers, led by Ashleigh Gardner and Tayla Vlaeminck, managed to claim crucial wickets. Gardner picked up four wickets, showcasing her bowling prowess, while Tahlia McGrath contributed with three wickets for Australia.
Beaumont’s wicket eventually fell, but not before she had taken England to a commanding position. The England Women’s team lost their last five wickets for just 52 runs, gifting Australia a 10-run advantage. Despite this setback, Australia added to their lead with an unbeaten 82-run partnership between Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield on day three.
The match between England Women and Australia Women has provided enthralling cricketing moments, with Beaumont’s incredible double century being the highlight of the contest. As the match heads towards its conclusion, cricket enthusiasts eagerly wait the remaining days, hoping for more thrilling performances and exciting twists.
