New Delhi: The Sports, Physical Education, Fitness, and Leisure Skill Council (SPEFL-SC), under the Ministry of Skill Development Corporation, has unveiled a comprehensive program aimed at empowering women in Jammu and Kashmir through self-defence and self-reliance. Building on the success of their pilot initiative conducted in the Kupwara district last year, which saw the participation of 300 women, SPEFL-SC is set to launch another 12-day self-defence program starting July 1.
The upcoming program in the Kupwara district aims to train over 1,800 young women in self-defence and self-reliance. SPEFL-SC’s self-defence programs have already made a significant impact, having educated over 15,000 young women across the country, with an additional 10,000 currently undergoing training.
The holistic course designed by SPEFL-SC emphasizes self-reliance and equips young women with the necessary skills to handle challenging real-life situations. The training is instrumental in empowering women and bolstering their confidence levels. Importantly, the program teaches participants various techniques to effectively defend themselves while also emphasizing the importance of using these skills responsibly. The training curriculum focuses on diffusing potentially dangerous situations with confidence and composure, discouraging violence or fighting as a means of defence.
The initiative by the Ministry of Skill Development Corporation recognizes the need to provide women with practical skills that can help them navigate and protect themselves in an ever-changing society. By imparting self-defence techniques and fostering a sense of self-reliance, the program aims to instill confidence and resilience in the participants.
The previous self-defence program conducted in Kupwara district received positive feedback and proved to be highly beneficial for the participants. With the forthcoming program set to reach an even larger number of young women, it is anticipated that the initiative will have a profound impact on the lives of participants, enabling them to better protect themselves and assert their rights in various situations.
The Ministry of Skill Development Corporation remains committed to creating a safer environment for women and empowering them through skill-building programs. By investing in initiatives that prioritize women’s safety, the government aims to foster a society where women can confidently navigate their surroundings and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
The upcoming self-defence program in Jammu and Kashmir underscores the government’s dedication to promoting gender equality and ensuring the well-being and security of its female citizens. As the participants undergo this empowering training, it is expected that they will emerge more resilient, self-assured, and equipped to face any challenges that come their way.
