Miami: Argentine football icon Lionel Messi is poised to reunite with Coach Gerardo Martino at Inter Miami following the recent dismissal of Phil Neville from the position of head coach.
Martino, who has previously managed Messi at both the national and club levels with Argentina and Barcelona, will now join forces with the World Cup 2022 winner in Major League Soccer (MLS). Having previously coached in America, Martino’s experience includes a successful stint with Atlanta United, where he was honoured with the 2018 MLS Coach of the Year award.
During their time together at Barcelona, Messi and Martino clinched the Spanish Super Cup, although they fell short of capturing the prestigious La Liga and Champions League titles. Nonetheless, their reunion at Inter Miami presents a fresh opportunity to create success in the American football landscape.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new venture, Martino conveyed his excitement, stating, “I’m very excited to join a big club like Inter Miami, and I believe that together we can accomplish great things. The club possesses the necessary infrastructure to become a major competitor in the region, and I firmly believe that with everyone’s hard work and dedication, we can achieve that.”
The arrival of Messi and Martino at Inter Miami has sparked considerable anticipation among football fans in Miami and beyond. The prospect of witnessing the Argentine duo reignite their on-field chemistry has generated widespread excitement and expectations of a prosperous era for the club.
