Zagreb: Indian table tennis player Manika Batra has made it to the Pre-Quarterfinals of the WTT Contender Zagreb after a convincing victory in the first round. Manika displayed her skill and determination as she defeated Croatia’s Hana Arapovic with a scoreline of 3-1 at the Dom Sportova.
With this win, Manika has set up an exciting clash against the 11th-ranked player in the world, Shin Yubin of Korea, which is scheduled to take place on Friday. It promises to be a thrilling encounter as Manika aims to continue her winning streak in the tournament.
However, it was not all good news for the Indian contingent in Zagreb. Sutirtha Mukherjee faced a tough challenge in her first-round match and unfortunately bowed out of the tournament after losing 0-3 to the higher-ranked Korean paddler Yang Ha Eun.
In the men’s singles category, Sharath Kamal Achanta had an intense battle in his first-round match against Lilian Bardet. Sharath emerged victorious in a close encounter with a score of 3-2, showcasing his resilience and skills on the table.
On the other hand, Harmeet Desai and Sharath faced a formidable challenge in their first-round doubles match against the Chinese duo of Lin Gaoyuan and Liang Jingkun. Despite their efforts, the Indian pair suffered a defeat with a score of 0-3.
In the women’s doubles category, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee faced tough opponents in the Croatian pair of Mateja Jeger and Ivana Malobabic. Unfortunately, the Indian duo fell short and lost the match by a score of 1-3.
In another doubles match, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and his partner faced a formidable South Korean pair consisting of Cho Seungmin and Lee Zion. The Indian duo fought hard but was unable to secure a victory, eventually losing the match with a close scoreline of 2-3.
