Kamrup, Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also holds the position of the president of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), paid a visit to the BAI office in Kamrup on Friday morning. The CM was warmly received by BAI vice president S Muralidharan, marking an important occasion for the promotion and development of badminton in the country.
During his visit, Chief Minister Sarma engaged in discussions with Muralidharan and other office bearers of the BAI, covering a wide range of topics that are crucial to the growth of badminton. The discussions encompassed matters such as funds allocation for the sport, upcoming events, the status of badminton infrastructure not only in Assam but also across the country, and the remarkable response of the young generation towards badminton.
As part of his visit, CM Sarma had the opportunity to view the display section that showcased the prestigious Thomas Cup, which was won by the Indian men’s badminton team in 2022. The historic achievement saw India secure their maiden Thomas Cup title by defeating the 14-time champion Indonesia with a resounding 3-0 victory in the final held in Bangkok.
The presence of Chief Minister Sarma at the BAI office highlights the government’s unwavering commitment to promoting and supporting badminton as a sport.
