Chennai: Chennaiyin FC, the two-time Indian Super League (ISL) champions, have made significant moves to strengthen their defence for the upcoming season. The club has secured the services of talented defenders Ankit Mukherjee and Bijay Chhetri on multi-year deals, aiming to bolster their backline and improve their overall performance on the field.
Ankit Mukherjee, a right-back, joins Chennaiyin FC from East Bengal FC. With 38 ISL appearances and one goal to his name, the 26-year-old brings valuable experience and a deep understanding of the game. Known for his ability to read the game well, Ankit’s presence on the team is expected to provide stability to the defence. Expressing his excitement, Ankit stated, “I am really happy and excited to join the two-time ISL Champions. Chennai has passionate fans, and I am looking forward to donning the Chennaiyin FC jersey and playing in front of them.”
Bijay Chhetri, a 21-year-old centre-back hailing from Manipur, has earned his major ISL contract with Chennaiyin FC. Having previously played for local club Chennai City FC, Bijay has showcased exceptional defensive abilities and composure on the field. His inclusion in the team further strengthens the defensive lineup and adds depth to the squad. Bijay shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m very happy and excited to be part of the Chennaiyin FC family and look forward to helping the club. I will give my 100% to help the club grow. I have heard a lot about the fans, and I can’t wait to play in front of the Supermachans and B-Stand Blues.”
