London: Premier League football club Newcastle United has secured the signing of highly-rated Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali from AC Milan. The 23-year-old midfielder, regarded as one of Italy’s most promising young talents, brings a wealth of experience and potential to the English club.
Tonali, who has already earned 14 international caps for the Italian national team, captained his country during the UEFA Under-21 European Championship this summer. His leadership and skill on the field have caught the attention of football enthusiasts worldwide.
Having begun his professional career at Brescia, where he helped the team achieve promotion from Serie B, Tonali made the move to AC Milan in 2020. Initially joining on a season-long loan, the midfielder quickly established himself as a key player, accumulating an impressive 130 appearances in Serie A.
Last season, Tonali played a pivotal role in AC Milan’s UEFA Champions League campaign, featuring in all 12 group and knockout stage matches as the team reached the semi-finals. His performances showcased his ability to perform at the highest level of European club football.
Expressing his gratitude to Newcastle United for the opportunity, Tonali said, “First of all, I want to thank Newcastle United because they are giving me a huge opportunity for my career. I want to repay the trust on the pitch, giving it my all, as I always have. I’m really excited about playing at St. James’ Park; I can’t wait to feel the warmth of the fans.”
Newcastle United’s head coach, Eddie Howe, expressed his delight at the acquisition of Tonali, stating, “He is an exceptional talent and has the mentality, physicality, and technical attributes to be a great fit for us. At 23, Sandro already has important experience as a key player in one of Europe’s top leagues and in the Champions League, as well as playing for his country. But he also has the opportunity and potential to grow and evolve with us, and I’m excited to add him to our squad as we approach the exciting season ahead.”
