Mumbai:According to media reports, the BCCI announced India’s T20 squad for the upcoming 5-match West Indies series on Wednesday. Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma received his maiden call-up to the Indian team, which is led by captain Hardik Pandya with Suryakumar Yadav as his deputy. Notably, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not been included in the squad.
Varma’s impressive performances for the Mumbai Indians, with a strike rate of over 142 in 47 games while batting at No. 5, caught the attention of the national selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar. However, KKR left-hander Rinku Singh missed out due to the availability of other middle-order options like Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Sanju Samson.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is set to make his Test debut soon, is also part of the T20 squad following his excellent performance in the IPL. Two players who have made international comebacks are pacer Avesh Khan and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi.
The team has three wrist spinners, including Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, who are also part of the 15-member squad.
India’s T20I squad: Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Surya Kumar Yadav (VC), Sanju Samson (wk), Hardik Pandya (C), Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar
