New Delhi: In a landmark decision, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Apex Council has approved the participation of Indian cricket teams in the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou. A second-string men’s team will represent India starting on September 28, while a full-strength women’s team will compete in the event starting on September 19.
Cricket has been a part of the Asian Games only twice, but India did not participate in either edition. However, the BCCI’s recent approval demonstrates their commitment to promoting the sport and providing opportunities for Indian cricketers to showcase their talents on the Asian stage.
The Asian Games cricket competition will coincide with a crucial period for the men’s team, as India is set to host the ODI World Cup from October 5. Despite the challenges posed by a crowded international schedule, the BCCI aims to successfully field teams in both categories and contribute to the national cause.
The decision to participate in the Asian Games reflects the BCCI’s recognition of the importance of multi-sport events in the development of Indian cricket. By sending teams to compete against the best in Asia, Indian cricketers will gain invaluable experience and exposure, further enhancing their skills and abilities.
