MILAN – Inter Milan announced on Saturday that defender Stefan De Vrij has signed a contract extension, committing his future to the club for an additional two years. The 31-year-old center-back’s decision to prolong his stay at Inter Milan has been warmly received by the club and fans alike.
In an official statement, Inter Milan confirmed the contract extension, stating, “FC Internazionale Milano can announce that it has reached an agreement with Stefan De Vrij to prolong his stay at the club. The 31-year-old defender has extended his contract until 2023.”
De Vrij’s contract extension is a significant boost for Inter Milan, particularly following the departure of some key players this month. The experienced defender’s presence will provide stability and strength to the team’s defense as they look to maintain their success in the upcoming season.
The departure of Milan Skriniar, who captained Slovakia, marks the end of his successful six-year stint with Inter Milan. Skriniar, 28, played a vital role in the team’s achievements, including winning a Scudetto, two Italian Cups, and two Super Cups. With 246 appearances and 11 goals to his name, Skriniar leaves behind a notable legacy.
Skriniar missed more than 20 games in all competitions with the club during his most recent season due to injury. They gave up 42 goals and finished third in the Italian Premier Division, demonstrating the defensive struggles rather clearly. He signed a five-year contract and moved to Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday.
On joining Paris Saint-Germain, Skriniar expressed his delight, stating, “I am very happy to be part of this wonderful club. PSG is one of the best clubs in the world, with world-class players and fantastic fans,” as per the official website of Paris Saint-Germain.
Another defensive partner, Danilo D’Ambrosio, is also bidding farewell to Inter Milan after contributing significantly to the team’s success. D’Ambrosio, who scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists, played an important role in Inter Milan’s achievements over the years.
Furthermore, Roberto Gagliardini, an Italian midfielder, will leave the club after a six-year career that saw him make 190 appearances and score 16 goals. Gagliardini was part of the team that won a Scudetto, two Supercoppa Italiana titles, and two Coppa Italia titles during his time at Inter Milan.
