NEW DELHI – Prithvi Shaw, the young Indian cricketer, believes that he does not need to change his game to make a comeback to the Indian team but rather become smarter in his approach. Shaw faced a setback during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season for the Delhi Capitals, resulting in his exclusion from the team. However, he remains determined to improve and learn from his past mistakes.
In the Duleep Trophy final, Shaw will have an opportunity to showcase his skills and rectify his form. In the semi-final match of the Duleep Trophy, he scored 26 and 25 runs in both innings, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact.
Shaw expressed his belief that he does not have to alter his game but instead employ a smarter approach when things are not going his way. He aims to strategize and manipulate bowlers to bowl in his desired areas, ensuring that he maximises his scoring opportunities.
Reflecting on his performance in the IPL 2023, Shaw acknowledged that he was preoccupied with his early innings and became caught up in overthinking. He realised the importance of leaving past matches behind and focusing on the future, emphasising the need to keep moving forward.
During the 2022–23 domestic season, Shaw showcased his prowess by scoring 595 runs in ten innings, including a remarkable knock of 379 off 383 balls against Assam, the second-highest individual score in the history of the Ranji Trophy.
While Shaw was overlooked in the recent squad announced for the West Indies tour, he remains optimistic and maintains a positive attitude. He understands that opportunities may come and go, but he believes that by performing consistently and maintaining his fitness, he will eventually regain his place on the Indian team.
Shaw emphasised the importance of sticking to his unique style of play and embracing his aggressive batting approach across formats. While he acknowledges the need to adapt certain aspects of his game, he intends to retain the qualities that have brought him success thus far.
As Shaw gears up to compete in the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone, starting on July 12, he aims to surpass his previous performances and elevate his game to a higher level. He aspires to become a better version of himself, both as a cricketer and as an individual.
