Bridgetown, Barbados: In a dominating display of cricketing prowess, India emerged victorious in the first One-Day International (ODI) of the three-match series against the West Indies. A four-wicket haul by Kuldeep Yadav and a resilient half-century by Ishan Kishan were the highlights of the match as India secured a comfortable five-wicket win at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.
Opting to bat first, the West Indies faced a daunting challenge against India’s spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. The Windies struggled to establish a solid footing and were restricted to a meagre total of 114 runs in 23 overs.
India’s chase of 115 runs commenced steadily, with Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan opening the inning. However, Gill’s struggles in recent international matches continued, as he was dismissed for seven runs off 16 balls. Nonetheless, Kishan’s impressive partnership with Suryakumar Yadav set India on a steady course towards victory.
The young wicketkeeper-batsman, Ishan Kishan, displayed remarkable composure and struck a brilliant half-century, reaching the milestone in just 44 balls. His innings comprised seven fours and a six. Yet, as wickets fell around him, including those of Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Shardul Thakur, Kishan remained the centrepiece of India’s chase.
With the help of skipper Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan steered India to a well-deserved triumph. The team reached the target of 115 in just 22.5 overs, finishing at 118/5. Kishan’s resilient knock of 52 runs proved instrumental in India’s victory.
Earlier, the West Indies had a faltering start to their innings as India’s Hardik Pandya removed Kyle Mayers early on. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja then took centre stage, weaving a web of spin to dismantle the Windies’ batting lineup. Kuldeep Yadav’s incredible four-wicket haul for just six runs in his three overs severely dented the West Indies’ hopes.
Despite a brief 43-run partnership between Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, the West Indian innings crumbled under the pressure exerted by India’s bowlers. Kuldeep Yadav’s spin wizardry, along with Jadeja’s three wickets, left the hosts bowled out for 114 runs in 23 overs.
With this convincing victory, India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. The exceptional performances of Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ishan Kishan were pivotal in India’s triumph, setting the stage for an exciting contest in the forthcoming matches.
