Kollam: In a massive crackdown against criminal activities, the Kollam city police, under the guidance of District Police Chief Merin Joseph, conducted a special drive, resulting in the arrest of 167 individuals. The operation, which commenced at 7 p.m. on July 27 and lasted until 2 a.m. the following day, saw the apprehension of numerous lawbreakers, with drunk drivers forming the majority of those detained.
The rigorous investigation was carried out under the leadership of Kollam, Chatannoor, and Karunagappally Superintendents of Police (SPs), who were acting on the explicit instructions of the State Police Chief. A significant number of police inspectors, along with officers from various units in the city, participated in this large-scale operation.
During the intensive inspection, three individuals were nabbed in connection with serious criminal offences, while six others were arrested in relation to various criminal cases. Additionally, 58 people were taken into custody based on non-bailable warrants, and 17 others were apprehended due to long-standing warrants from different police station jurisdictions.
Apart from these arrests, several cases were registered against individuals found in possession of prohibited tobacco products, and others were charged under the Abkari Act for alcohol-related violations.
The City Police Commissioner asserted that the police force remains resolute in their commitment to maintaining the law, and he emphasised that stringent checks and investigations will continue in the days to come to ensure the safety and security of the city’s residents.
