Thiruvananthapuram : In a move aimed at offering more flexibility to citizens, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for Aadhaar card renewal by an additional three months. The previous deadline, which was set to expire on September 14, has now been pushed to December 14, 2023, granting individuals ample time to ensure their Aadhaar details are up-to-date.
This extension comes as a relief to countless Aadhaar cardholders who may require updates or corrections to their personal information. While the service remains free for online renewals, those opting for in-person updates at offline centres may be subject to associated fees.
UIDAI has emphasised that all Aadhaar cards issued more than a decade ago must undergo the renewal process. Furthermore, individuals who have experienced changes in their name, address, or other vital details are urged to promptly update their Aadhaar records to reflect these modifications accurately.
To facilitate the process of Aadhaar renewal, individuals can follow these simple steps:
- Visit the official website, myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
- Navigate to the ‘My Aadhaar’ menu.
- Select the ‘Update your Aadhaar’ option.
- Click on ‘Update’ and proceed by selecting ‘Continue.’
- Enter your Aadhaar number in the provided column.
- Complete the captcha verification.
- Enter the OTP (one-time password) received after verification.
- Choose the ‘Update Demographic Data’ option.
- Select the specific information you need to update.
- Enter the new details accurately.
- Upload scanned copies of the required supporting documents.
- Verify that all the provided information is correct.
- Validate the update request with OTP authentication.
Once these steps are successfully completed, the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card will receive an SMS confirming the successful update. Users can also apply the same process to update other details in their Aadhaar records, ensuring that their information remains accurate and up-to-date.
